Do you ever have those mornings, afternoons or evenings where you are just NOT feeling it? You aren’t into working out, you don’t feel like “making good choices” and you just want to give into your cravings? You know I’m a big proponent of giving into those cravings every once in awhile and just enjoying life without worrying about what you’re putting in your mouth. But what about when that turns into more often then not, what can you do?
Look for cheerleaders. We all need them. I need them. I need them when I don’t feel like getting on the treadmill, or drinking my 3rd bottle of water. Or even when I just need someone to relate to my struggles at the moment.
I know that many of my readers know about cheerleaders and use them just as much as I do, but I also know that many of my readers don’t know that much about the online world of cheerleading.
So where do you actually find cheerleaders? I KNOW there are many more sites for this, but personally I find the ones I’m going to share below to be the best:
Twitter! Twitter is by far the most supportive community around (I think!). Get on twitter and start following people who share the same interests as you. Tweet them, encourage others and tweet about your own successes and struggles. You will find people tweeting you back helping you get through your workout, food issue, recipe search, etc. Twitter is all about interacting, the more you do, the more it will work for you. I love tweeting for motivation when I don’t feel like working out. There’s always someone in the twitterverse to write back and tell me to get my butt in gear and go!
Facebook: Although some people may find it slightly irritating to see you post your every move, you could start or join a group for people with similar interests. Not my favorite option, but if you are intimated by other social network sites, start here! Also, like pages of products and activities you like for extra support. For example, like Vega or Koga. They write things that may give you extra motivation!
Daily Mile: This is a website where you can record your workouts. It helps you track what you do during the week so you can see your progress. You can also friend people and motivate & congratulate each other on your workout. Love this site.
Pinterest: Pinterest is another networking site where you have friends. You have different catagories of boards and can “pin” pictures that are motivational to you. Read more about Pinterest from Janetha, she explained it really well. Check out my pinterest page to see what it’s about.
The point is, you don’t have to travel on your healthy living journey alone. It can be hard to talk about your successes and struggles with family & friends sometimes because they may not have the same interests as you. Choose one of these platforms and find similar people. You will be blown away by the connections you can make.
Trust me, I’ve been there! My twitter friends and I cheer each other on ALL the time. Daily in fact.
Bottom Line: Don’t do this alone! Find a cheerleader, or 500 and join one of these sites! Look for people who like things like you do…like me!
On a totally different note, thank you for all the views of my green smoothie with kale that I posted yesterday! I loved reading your comments here, on facebook and twitter! I also really appreciated the picture Matthew and his roommate sent me of them drinking their green smoothie!
Thanks guys!
What is your favorite social media platform? Do you look to them for motivation?

Hi Nicole. Great post! I’m a huge fan of Twitter when it comes to support and exchanging ideas and information with others also interested in healthy living.
Good stuff! I love my Facebook page (Losing It and Loving It) for workout accountability. Seeing others check in with their workouts gives me motivation to do mine so I can check in too.
Your link to Daily Mile goes to a fitness page on FB but I’m going to Google it and check it out.
And I’m just getting into Pinterest so I’m looking forward to learning more about it.
Thanks!

Twitter definitely gives me a boost when I need it most. One quote I read yesterday changed my world forever! I’ve never been to Pinterest, but I’m thinking that’s about to change.

This fall I began using these sites you mention and have benefited from the online “cheering” I hadn’t even anticipated. It’s amazing, as you say, how much support you’ll receive from new friends all over the world. Twitter is definitely the easiest and provided the most instantaneous feedback, and DailyMile is a great tool for tracking and sharing workouts. You outlined it all very well! Thanks!
we love using social media for motivation. twitter is by far the best then pinterest!

Hi Nicole! I love Twitter too and I just joined DailyMile but haven’t posted anything yet. It seems like a great site for accountability

haha! Matt and Jeff look like champs even at 5am! I’ve just gotten into pinterest, I LOVE posting recipes up there because I’m disorganized in the real world, so a virtual pinboard is PERFECT… I’ll never lose them! I drink a green smoothie everyday! a pint in the am, and a pint in the pm. Matt and Jeff got me started, and I haven’t had any added sugar in about 2 months and counting!
