Surprise! Happy 30th Birthday Party Danny!

by Nicole on August 20, 2012

What a weekend!

I can FINALLY talk about what I’ve been planning for the past comple of months…Danny’s 30th surprise party!

I’ve literally been planning this for months and it was the hardest thing to keep from Danny. 90% of the time I have zero filter… (not a good thing) but I had to actually think before I spoke almost everytime I opened my mouth in front of him. When he walked through our backyard gate with his friends, I was SO relieved to not have to keep this from him anymore.

We had about 30 of our closest family and friends over to celebrate him and his 30 years of life. Danny is the most laid back, easy going, loving person. He works SO hard everyday at his job and then with Pure Bliss and never, ever complains. I wish I could have done even more, but this was certainly the least I could do.

I had fun scouring Pinterest and coming up with fun and inexpensive party ideas. Check out my party board to see when I got my inspiration from. I wanted to have some sort of theme, without being cheesy, so I figured blue and white would be great.

I ordered blue and white polka dot plates, blue & white straws, blue & white cupcake liners, napkins and lime green plasticware from birthday direct.com.

Some things I did to make the party pretty:

Tied burlap and ribbon around vases and then put lemon and lime slices at the bottom.

Got simple white paper tableclothes and a roll of burlap I cut to make table runners.

Cut out circles, stamped then with a D and put ribbon around napkins & forks/knives.

Used my blackboard tiles to label all of the food.

Bought mason jars and tied navy ribbon around them. Perfect to be “green” and reusable! Also bought mini tags so people could write their name on the tag and tie to ribbon so jar wouldn’t get lost.

Food:

For appetizers we had hummus, spinach dip and bruschetta (all homemade). I made a brown rice pasta salad, harvest grains southwestern salad, summer salad with blueberries and a green salad. We had whole wheat chicken/veggie paninis that I bought from La Bottega. Dessert was chocolate & vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream frosting, Danny’s mom’s chocolate chip cookies, vanilla & chocolate ice cream from 5 Pennies and fruit skewers. All perfect. All delicious.

Having a party at your house is so much easier when you have it outside AND when you have lots of help. I had help with all of the decorations, food, setting up and cleaning up. Let me also state that whenever I said “I did….” I mean me, my sister, Jess, and Uncle Tom. This was NOT done alone. (Thanks for your help!!)

All in all it was a perfect day filled with amazing company, a thankful birthday boy and lots of laughs. I’m SO happy that everyone could come celebrate Danny!

8 days until Danny’s real birthday and can’t wait to continue the celebration! <3
