Good morning! Happy first Monday of April! Just saying the word April makes me happy, because of the upcoming months.

I didn’t blog over the weekend because I took a road trip to Providence with my family to see my sister in the play Gypsy. This is her last production of her college career and we all make sure we were there to support her. She was amazing and so was the rest of the cast. We ate at some of my favorite places and one new one in Providence.

I didn’t take any pictures because I counted this as a blog vacation, but we ate at Kartabar on Thayer Street, Union Station Brewery and the Brickway on Wickendon for breakfast. All really great, reasonably priced places. My family was pretty shocked at the prices because they were so low for such good food…which usually happens outside of NYC. It was a great weekend.

When we got back, since my IT band was feeling great for 3 days, I decided to go for a 4 mile run/walk. It felt great during, but after it was all tight. I stretched, foam rolled and iced but it still doesn’t feel as good as it did. It doesn’t feel nearly as bad as it did, but I think I’m going to try going to the chiropractor this week anyway.

It is frustrating to me that I got injured after both long distances races I did, when I do train, cross train and strength train on a regular basis. I don’t know how people go out and run race after race, back to back, not injured. But I know I can’t compare and every body is different, but I still need to complain and vent a little, but I’m done now.

Anyway, I wanted to share with you the APP I’m in love with. I found it through people using it on facebook and twitter. It’s the Nike + GPS APP. If you don’t have a garmin and want something like it, for a really small price, this app is for you. (P.S. I bought this with my money.) You can track your runs and keep track of your pace and distance. It lets you choose a basic run (think quickstart on treadmill), time (run against the clock), or distance (run for a certain amount of miles).

While your running it tells you when you have reached mile markers and your current pace. When your race is over it will show you your exact route, elevation, your pace and you can sync it with facebook or twitter. Then if you really want you can sync your ipod or iphone with your computer and it will update to the website. You can download running workouts and training plans and get support from the Nike running community.

I love this because it was $1.99 and it has so many features. I don’t always like keeping track of my runs, so a garmin really isn’t for me. I’ve said before how I like the freedom of running without a device, so for $1.99 it’s perfect to use it sometimes and leave it home others. It has so many features and options, I haven’t even explored them all.

Even though I’m not running right now, I thought you all should learn about this great App. I hope I’ll be back to running soon, but my first concern is walking around Italy with zero pain. If I have to drop out of the Brooklyn half, I will, but I really don’t think I’ll have to. Only time shall tell! We’ll see!

Have you used the Nike App?

Off to work! Enjoy your day!

I LOVE love http://www.makinggoodchoicesblog.com/2010/09/i-love-love.html http://www.makinggoodchoicesblog.com/2010/09/i-love-love.html#comments Tue, 28 Sep 2010 00:18:12 +0000 Nicole http://www.makinggoodchoicesblog.com/?p=2840

Hello, I am alive and well, I swear! I’m really well, just REALLY tired.

I have so much to post about and it will all eventually get written. So far I’ve been sleepwalking through the day… in the most awake kind of way. I’m not even going to joke about sleep walking too much, considering I did have an encounter with Danny sleepwalking Saturday night at 4 am. Let’s just say it involving a lot of yelling, tripping, falling (him not me) and a minor scrape. I won’t get into it, but it wasn’t pretty.

Sleepwalking, for both him and me happened because this weekend was one of my very best pal’s weddings. I had 2 very special (well 3 if you count my mom) weddings in the past 2 months and 1 more to go. Lauren and John have been together for 8 years and met at PC. It is a true love story, and if you know anything about me, you would know I LOVE true love. If you didn’t know that about me, you would have after spending the weekend with me because I repeated it probably 8,349 times over the course of my crying out of joy 123 times.

Just Married!

It was an amazingly beautiful ceremony, wedding, reception, rehearsal and everything else. Their personal touches were all over the wedding from the place cards, to the Providence College mascot that came running out in the middle of the wedding, to the ice cream sandwiches that were served as dessert. The 5 of us bridesmaids (well 4, with 1 matron of honor!) all had different dresses from different designers. Lauren hand picked them each for us. We picked our own shoes from a huge selection she sent us.

The wedding was at the Watch Hill Chapel in Watch Hill, RI. (The invitations to the rehearsal dinner were postcards from Watch Hill!) The reception was at the Shelter Harbor Golf Club in Westerly, RI. It was under a tent, which was spectacular. The cocktail hour looked over the golf course and served amazing appetizers of swordfish in a cone, mini grilled cheese sandwiches, pulled pork on crackers and tomato soup among other things.

The reception food was also incredible. There were 3 choices of entrees: fried free range chicken, grass fed beef burgers or goat cheese and veggie stuffed strudel. There were also family style side dishes in the middle of the table: wilted chard, green salad, french fries, macaroni and cheese and corn bread. I had the veggie stuffed strudel and tried all of the side dishes. Then…..came the dessert. Lauren and John was their own cake with honker toppers, and then the dessert was 3 different ice cream sandwiches with different cookies/brownie and different ice cream. I ate most of the 3 and it was worth every single bite.

The wedding party stayed in the cottages where the party didn’t end. We danced the night away with not only the PC friar, but the shake weight too. Did you know it’s a perfect party accompaniment??? Why I don’t have any pics of anyone with the shake weight is just beyond me.  A perfect time was had by all… true love, friends, food and music = an unforgettable night!
