Pregnancy Update: 13 weeks!

by Nicole on April 18, 2012

So 13 weeks is here already….well at this point it’s 13.5 weeks, but that’s how it goes.

These weeks are flying by and I’m happy to be officially out of the first trimester and into the second. The nausea is basically gone and my energy during the day is pretty good. I still feel not my best after 5 p.m. and am disenchanted with dinner, but the difference is I can actually eat and not cry over the fact I hate eating.

Sleep: Sleep has been okay besides the birds chirping right outside our window at 1 am. Did you even KNOW birds chirp at 1 am? I was so pissed. The most annoying part was it seems like there were a bunch of them and they were all making different noises. I put on a Jillian Michaels podcast and tried to fall back asleep. I’ve been sleeping until about 7 am every morning and I think I could probably sleep until 9 if I didn’t wake up hungry.

Food: Food has been pretty good. I’m still having eggs on a brown rice wrap with ketchup and fruit every morning.  I’m obsessed with fruit and went to the food store at 7 pm Sunday night just to get strawberries and grapes.  I’ve also added raspberries and blueberries to my current obsession. I’ve been trying to track my protein (ish) and make sure I’m getting enough.

mahi mahi, grilled asparagus & broccoli & salad

new quinoa recipe w/mushrooms & peas

cauliflower crusted pizza (+3 more pieces)

Favorite foods in the past week: quinoa, brown rice spaghetti with garlic and oil, fruit, homemade pizza, granola bar from Peels. (love me some carbs)

Hated foods: The smell of peanut butter & chocolate is enough to make me want to claw my eyes out. Beans and smoothies (except I randomly wanted one last week).

Coffee: You all know how obsessed I am with coffee. The first probably 5-6 weeks (5 of which I didn’t know I was pregnant) I was having a cup or two of coffee a day. When I found out I was pregnant I went down to a small cup. Then I started with morning sickness and I did NOT want coffee AT ALL. Now I’ll occasionally have a small decaf iced coffee but that’s it. In my head I want coffee, but my stomach doesn’t really want it. I’m not super against having a small cup every so often, but I’m kind of nervous now how the caffeine will affect me.

Clothes fitting: My clothes still fit. I wore a dress Saturday that was tight mostly in the chest/upper ribcage area. I got through it but it was a little tight. I also had to buy new bras. My pants are getting a bit snug, but my JCREW cafe capris are carrying me through and I think will fit for awhile.

didn't end up wearing necklace

Emotional meltdowns: Not that many. I haven’t had a major one in weeks. I think I’m pretty emotionally stable, but I am crankier than usual. Danny’s probably violently shaking this head. It’s usually only after 9 or after I’ve eaten dinner or in the middle of the night. hah.

Exercise: Going well. In the past week I ran 3 times (3.5 – 4.5 miles at a time), lifted some weights, went on a few walks, took a spin class, held a few planks. Still keeping up with about 6 days of exercise.

Baby things bought: None. Should we have bought anything yet? Currently baby has been gifted quite a few things from excited family and friends. We haven’t personally bought anything yet. When do you do the registering thing?

Thoughts from the week: I still can’t believe there’s a real life growing in there. I have started to catch myself rubbing my belly, but it’s still unbelievable to think about what’s in there.  Danny has started to ask how the baby is, which I kind of melt at. He also uses this to his advantage when I may be annoyed at him, he just asks about baby and I can’t help but not be mad. (When I’m usually mad about trivial things like having to wash a pot.) I also feel like at this point I’m just starting to look like the end of the freshman year in college. At least I don’t have the swollen face…..yet.

I think that’s about it. If there’s anything you’d like to know feel free to email or ask in the comments!

Do you have the Baby Bump app? I’m 15 weeks, and it’s been fun! My husband even put it on his phone, do he can keep up with all the growing baby is doing. :) You probably have it already, but if not, you may get a kick out of it.

I look at my kids everyday and am still amazed that we made them! I don’t think I’ll ever get past that. I am so excited for you two! Parenthood is not easy, but it is such an amazing adventure! Love that dress! Swollen boobs are awesome at this stage, well in looks anyway, maybe not in how they feel. Tony misses my huge nursing boobs. Sadly, they are long gone…

I hope you have a great day Nicole!

So exciting that you’re out of the first trimester!! Funny– I was obsessed with fruit throughout my pregnancy too :-) . We didn’t buy anything really until we knew the sex of the baby. You still have tons of time!

The Cauliflower Crust pizza looks awesome. Glad to hear that you don’t hate food anymore! I wonder if the coffee cravings in your body will come back after baby comes – I’m betting YES! I am bummed to see an Emotional Meltdowns category lol! But glad to hear that there are none!

I love your blog and I really like the fact you run some miles while pregnant!! I’m ttc and I am nervous about having to stop running. What are your thoughts on this? I think if you listen to your body that’s most important.
Did you run throughout the first trimester? I’ve read that you should take it easy after ovulation as to not “shake things up” too much.
Thanks! you look great!

I was a raspberry addict when I was pregnant. I justified the high cost of berries because I couldn’t get enough of them. Plus, I planted my own raspberry bushes, so that helped:) You look great! Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes as smoothly!

I’m glad you’re feeling better and things are going so well :) I remember starting to catch myself rubbing my belly, too. Isn’t it funny how you do it unconsciously?
