Favorite Things: Pregnancy Edition

by Nicole on May 31, 2012

As I was going through my routine between yesterday and today I thought about the new products I’ve added to my life since being pregnant.

I don’t really know many IRL people who are currently pregnant and none of my friends have been pregnant (YET!) so I figured I’d write some of my favorite things down to document them. While this post may not be for everything, if you’re anything like me you’ll read anyway because you’re interested. (or not…and that’s fine too! :) )

So far throughout this pregnancy, I have to say it’s been pretty easy. I remember when I was back in the thick of the first trimester and feeling disgusting, I couldn’t believe anyone did this more than once. I’m happy to say it really does get better…even though I wanted to smack anyone who told me that when I could barely get out of bed. I’m enjoying these second trimester weeks and holding onto them because I’ve heard the third tri goes back to being not so much fun.

Favorite things: Pregnancy Edition

1. Decaf Coffee: I cut back on my coffee intake when I had vertigo in the late fall, so I was only having about 2 cups a day when I got pregnant. I continued having 1 cup when I found out I was pregnant, but then eventually didn’t want it at all for about 2 months because I felt SO sick. Now I drink 2 cups of half caff/half decaf. I ordered Jeremiah’s Pick Organic Decaf coffee and I love it. I combine it with beans from my favorite coffee shop, Kookaburra. I’ve also tried Allegro decaf coffee and liked it, but Jeremiah’s is more budget friendly and I can subscribe to it on Amazon and save more money!

2. Belli Skin Care: Belli was so nice and generous to send me their elasticity belly oil, acne clearing face wash and sunscreen. I LOVE it all. They use all natural ingredients, smell amazing and feel so good on my skin. I use the belly oil every single day on basically all parts of my body and I use the face wash at night. Love it all and highly recommend it!

3. Under Armour Armour Bra: I’m also lucky that Under Armour sent me this bra. It’s basically the only one I have right now that fits me perfectly and properly. It has amazing support and I don’t feel confined or restricted in this. I could use about 4 more of these.

4. Gap & Old Navy Maternity Clothes: I’m only really one full week into maternity clothes. I hesitated SO much because I HATED the thought of frumpy clothes that weren’t cute/fashion forward. I went to one Old Navy with a maternity section and basically cried because I hated everything. I found that the online selection was WAY better. Also combine it with a coupon, which they most always have and get clothes for really good prices.  I also have been wearing many not maternity dresses that are high waisted that still work.  Add a belt and you’re good to go. An almost daily staple for me are these pure body tanks. They are amazing for layering.

5. Baby Bump and What to Expect Apps: Both free and fun to look at to see baby’s progress.

6. Hair removal devices: I’m Italian. I have dark skin and dark hair. Yes, the hair on my head is thick, shiny and beautiful (can I say that?) however with that comes hair everywhere else. Let’s be honest, I’ve owned my own waxing machine since high school and my mom started tweezing my eyebrows between 4th and 5th grade. I’m NO stranger to hair removal. Matter of fact, I had an extremely emotional moment when I found out I couldn’t have laser hair removal during pregnancy. So I’ve taken to shaving and waxing, which I’ve ALWAYS done, but now it’s about 2x as frequent as before.

I’m sure I’ll probably think of more, but for now I figured while I can remember things I’d share with you. Pregnancy brain is real folks. I have almost zero vocabulary and can’t remember words, names, places, etc.

I’m off to go for a run before it gets hotter. The humidity is gone…YAY!

Have a great day!

LUCKY! The smell of coffee made me sick during my entire pregnancy. I survived on arnold palmers and Starbuck’s black tea.

I hear you on the hair front, you must tell me more about this home waxing device, I am always nervous that I am going to mess it up!

It is really a normal thing to feel something awkward especially when you are pregnant. You cannot avoid it even if you do not like it. Just the way how a pregnant women suffer for 9 months.

You have taken me right back to being pregnant! I’ve got two now but I was the first of my friends to take the plunge! The Old Navy outlet was my go to clothing headquarters for maternity wear. I also enjoyed the motherhood maternity OUTLET. People told me and I didn’t believe them but the second you have your bundle of joy you will want to BURN all your old maternity clothes. It seems to be the brains way of telling you it’s time to get yourself back :)

Congratulations on your Kickstarter funding as well! I wish you all the best!

While I have this on the brain… towards the end of your pregnancy (30+ weeks) your feet may swell. It was days of keeping wifey’s feet up and elevated at home. A couple months ago, I put on some compression socks I have for running to help speed recovery and wifey mentioned “why didn’t I use those?” LOL. I don’t know why, but I never thought of it. If you have some, could be a good idea.

Hi, Nicole! It’s not to know that your pregnancy journey is easy on you. The 2nd trimester is always exciting because aside from getting through with the morning/afternoon sickness, you will be in full bloom as a pregnant woman.

One thing I regret when I was pregnant with my 2nd child was not applying moisturizing oil/cream on my belly. Now, it looks not as good as before.
