Happy Mother’s Day!

by Nicole on May 14, 2012

Morning and Happy Monday! I hope that you celebrated Mother’s Day with the people you LOVE.

My blog is not working correctly but I do have Andrew of the Hipp Designs on it (which is why there are no pictures…). I couldn’t even deal with it yesterday when I tried to post, so I decided instead of sitting on here for hours to try to (not be able to) fix it myself, I would get busy living life.

Yesterday my husband got up and made me a really nice breakfast of eggs and pancakes. We enjoyed a nice long breakfast, just the two of us and talked about how we couldn’t believe there would be a little 6 month old person sitting with us next year. So crazy and unbelievable!

As my belly grows it’s getting more and more real, but somehow I don’t think it will be totally real until I’m heading to the hospital in labor. (WHAT? P.S. did anyone see Rosie Pop live tweeted labor yesterday?) I was so blessed to receive so many amazing cards, texts, calls and tweets yesterday from family and friends. That was SO special.

It was even more special to share it with my family Sunday and be able to see Danny’s family Saturday. I’ve posted before how close my mom and I are. She has taught me all the important things in life and for someone who didn’t have a good relationship with my father, my mom was it for my sister and I.  My mom was the one at every event, giving us advice, by our side, driving us place to place, holidays, took us shopping, went to parents weekend and much much more. I don’t ever talk about my other non-existant parent on my blog, because I have a good life and it’s not something I focus on. But, just to be clear, I am the person I am because of my mom.

And this year, as I reflect on who I want my child to be, it seems to mean 100,000,000 times more this year. I know my child(ren) will be lucky to have TWO parents who are there every step of the way, so I hope I can be 1/2 the parent my mom is to me.

So as I reflect on my mom and the lessons she taught me, like I did last year, I think about how I want to carry those forward and pass them on to this little person inside of me.

  • Follow your heart, it will always tell you the right thing to do.
  • Always be the better person in any situation, no matter how hard it is.
  • Give, give, give and give more.
  • Family comes first.

Well, now that I’m sitting here in tears (which I spent 70% of the weekend in = crazy pregnant person) it’s time for me to head to the gym! After last week being away so much, I have a boatload of work to do!

How did you celebrate your mama and yourself yesterday?  What’s the most important thing your mom taught you?

sweet post! I did one for my mom yesterday. My mom taught me compassion. She is such a compassionate person and it’s something that I struggle with, so she reminds me and teaches me!

It will start to feel real before heading to the hospital in labor — that just makes it real real lol.

I’m as close with my mom as it sounds like you are. I can only hope to be the kind of mom she is.

I reflected on similar thoughts on my mothers day post yesterday. I celebrated with the little things, we stayed home and enjoyed my kids and hubby undivided attention for the day. A mother’s leading job is essential and I think the best lesson my mom thought me {and still is} is to never give up and always work hard for what you want and makes you happy.
