Meet Ellie: Review

by Nicole on March 4, 2013

So a couple of months ago I was approached by PV Body for the chance to be a part of their monthly subscription service. Their plan was an outfit a month for $49 for some of the best names in fitness wear (Lululemon, American Apparel, Nux, etc). It sounded like a great deal and I was intrigued. Fast forward a little bit, I did receive my outfit and like it. It was American Apparel leggings and a Nux short sleeve top. Everything worked, size, fit, style and I was excited to share it.

Then a bit of a scandal broke out. There was a bit of a bait and switch. Instead of PV Body, they were switching to their own line called Ellie. You can read about it here from Sarah.  A LOT of other bloggers had major customer service issues and I was very skeptical. I’m ALWAYS honest with you about products I recieve and turn down a good amount of products that don’t aline with my beliefs and likes.

We got to preview the Ellie line and it all looked really nice. Supposedly it was Lululemon quality for a much cheaper price. Lululemon is one of my favorite workout and everyday brands, so I figured there was no way they could compete. (I do also love Nike, Under Armour & Reebok workout wear for running.)  I picked out the two pieces I wanted to try and waited.

It took a couple of weeks from when they said it would be shipped…which I totally get as a business owner. Sometimes (and often) your timeline isn’t what you want and expect it to be.

I picked out a blue long sleeve top and grey leggings with a black stripe down the side. I went with 2 pieces that I didn’t have. I have to say that I really, really like both pieces. They are super comfortable and stayed put when I worked out. I wore the pants once to run in and once to do a fitness/strength workout. They are high quality. They are very close to Lululemon, but I still would say Lulu has the better quality pant and top…which I would expect for the price tag. I wear my Lululemon bottoms (Wunder Unders, Astro, & Groove) in rotation throughout the week. They look good and are super comfortable. I don’t think I’d wear the Ellie pant (at least this particular one) the same way because they look more like a workout pant.

The blue top is really cute and I did wear it with Lulu bottoms just hanging around during the day. So that did work for working out and hanging out. I also have washed each piece twice and everything held up (stitching, logo, color.)

Ellie is going to come out with a new line each month. This alone makes me skeptical because I know how much time, energy and money goes into designing a product from the ground up. I don’t know for how long they will be able to design new, fresh wear every month and make it work.

Overall, my experience with P.V. Body/ Ellie was a positive one, but it’s not the case for many other bloggers & readers. I liked both shipments of clothes they sent me very much. It is a great price for what you are getting, but I think they have a ways to go with their business practices for now regarding customer service. Every growing business has kinks in the beginning, so I hope they work it out and make the needed changes!  I think as a small business owner, I am a little forgiving because I understand what you go through to make your business happen and work. I just wish they had been more upfront and honest about the changes they were making! You can also read about Katy’s experience here, and Becki’s experience here, which both weren’t very good.

If you would like to sign up for Ellie and get two pieces a month for $49.95, then sign up here. You can also use code WELCOME20 for 20% off. (Note: this is NOT an affiliate link, it’s just the link to the website!) The theme for the collection this month is “Little Black Collection”.

So in close, I DO like the clothes, but I DO NOT like their business practices. To be honest, I won’t be signing up for this program and will not be an ambassador. I DID want to be honest and share with you my experience. I hope they DO make positive changes and win back their clients by being honest, improving their customer service and fixing the errors they made.

I *love* how honest you are. I was an ambassador with pvBody but bailed after the ‘scandal’. Their Ellie clothes do look cute, but I’m not even going to try them because I’m so displeased with their bait-and-switch. Thank you for sharing this review!

I couldnt have said it better! my experience was the same exact . I JUST got my outfit today and it wasnt even what I ordered. I will NOT be an ambassador due to their customer service. SAD because I thought it was a great idea.

I really wanted to try this line out but chose not to after the whole bait and switch.

I think they have a really neat idea, but I’d rather be responsible for choosing my own clothes. Love your honesty! I’d much rather try a program for day-to-day clothes (StitchFix come to mind) because I have ZERO style!

I like how honest you are in your review. That is so disappointing to hear that you and many others had such bad experiences.

I also really appreciate your honesty here. I’m so glad your personal experience was a good one and that you got quality product. Thanks for giving both sides, that’s really refreshing.
