Quick, Easy & Healthy Snack: Vega Energizing Smoothie!

by Nicole on June 19, 2012

Morning! I was sleepy this morning after being in the commercial kitchen real late last night. I know I have the luxury of sleeping until whenever I want and for now, until baby comes, I’m doing it whenever I can. I know I’m lucky that I can sleep until 8, but trust me I make it up for it on the other end of the day.

You know I’m so passionate about healthy foods, which is clearly why I started my own health food/granola company. I love getting in my vegetables, fruits, whole grains, healthy fats and proteins. I’ve spoken to you to near death about it. Luckily, I crave these foods. but I do have days where I just am not in the mood to take down a salad for lunch. Or there are those days that I need something just SUPER convenient on the go.

Another thing you know already: I love Vega. I love their company, products, message, basically everything they stand for. Matter of fact I’m wearing my Vega t-shirt right now! They recently did some work rebranding and came out with their new line of shake and go smoothies. Since I LOVE them, I was so happy to try out this new line.

So here’s the deal with Vega Energizing Smoothie:

  • It has 2 servings of veggies
  • Dairy, gluten & soy free with no sugar added.
  • It has 10g of complete protein, 5g fiber & 1g of omega 3′s
  • Plant Based
  • Comes in Bodacious Berry, Choc-a-lot, Oh Natural, Tropical Tango and Vanilla Almondilla

So I’ll be completely honest here and tell you I’m not a fruity protein powder person. I LOVED the choc-a-lot and Vanilla Almondilla. I added the vanilla almondilla to a smoothie, using almond milk and banana and just added water to the choc-a-lot. They were both perfect snacks. I added the bodacious berry to a fruit smoothie and liked it. I’d say it was my third favorite. I honestly haven’t tried the oh natural or tropical tango yet. I could see the oh natural being good added to a smoothie or even to protein pancakes since it just has vanilla flavor.

I get many questions from clients who want FAST snacks that are good, no very high in calories and will fill them up. I always recommend Vega protein powder and would absolutely recommend these. They are 90 calories per serving, so it easily fits into your day.

Disclaimer: Vega sent me these samples for review but all thoughts and opinions are my own!

I’m off to clean up this house, go for a run and get WORK done!

What’s your favorite quick and easy snack?

I love to make smoothies too!! My typical go-to smoothie is almond milk, 1/2 frozen banana, frozen blueberries, 1 tbsp. coconut oil, spinach and whey protein powder. I use the Rainbow Light Whey Protein. I love it! It is gluten-free, lactose-free, soy-free and it has digestive enzymes to help with bloating. Plus is sustiable for prenatal use. Love it. :)

I might have to get this in order to get some veggies into my boyfriend. He hates “green things” as he likes to call them. Haha.

Aside from smoothies, grabbing a snack size container of greek yogurt and mixing it with fresh berries or a small handful of nuts is quick and tasty.

Hope to hear more about the commercial kitchen sometime!

Oohh wow those sound nutritious AND delicious! I’m not a protein powder person at all. When I do make smoothies, it’s usually a mix of greek yogurt, a little almond milk, and then whatever fruits or vegetables I have on hand (banana-pumpkin smoothies, berry smoothies with shredded greens).

I talk about healthy snacking here ( http://dareyouto.blogspot.com/2012/03/snack-smarter.html ), but my favorite quick and easy snack is fruit & nut combos :) Almost TOO easy for my own good haha . These vega mixes sound great, though! I’ll keep those in mind for future smoothies

Yum!! I definitely want to try these sometime. I have been sampling some protein powder right now and I have the Vega Sport vanilla protein powder. I definitely need to use it in a smoothie!

I actually have tried the vanilla almondilla and it was a huge success. I think I had one of their plain protein powders (maybe in chocolate?) and I really didn’t like it. I’ll have to try the choc a lot too! My favorite quick and easy snack is usually a piece of fruit with some peanut butter or those laughing cow cheese spreads with fruit. Occasionally when I’m on the go, I’ll grab a NuGo nutrition bar or protein bar.
