High Protein: Hemped Up Hummus!

by Nicole on January 13, 2012

Hello Friday! Are you all psyched for the weekend?

I’m continuing in my quest to snack on more protein…but I’m not talking about straight chicken. I’m trying to stick to my veggie based diet and just changed up my idea of typical snacking. I’ll fill you more in on this next week, but for now, a snack I’m enjoying is hemped up hummus!

I basically just took my hummus recipe and added hemp to it. And NO hemp is NOT what you are thinking. Your blood tests will be just fine. (I get this question A LOT :) )

Shelled hempseeds are a complete protein made from a seed. It is 33% digestible pure protein, rich in vitamin E, magnesium, as well as Omega-3 and Omega-6 — the essential fatty acids. You can add it to  omelets, yogurt, oatmeal, smoothies, salads, dressings, and desserts. (source)

In 3 tbsp of hemp there is 170 cals, 14 g (HEALTHY FATS) and 11g of protein. An excellent way to ramp up your protein! I even throw this over Danny’s lunches sometimes to give him extra cals, fats & protein!

If you want to watch how I make hummus, check out this vlog!

I’m off to do some at home yoga before I continue my work for the day! Pure Bliss Eats is getting a MAJOR facelift, so I have lots of work to do for that today!

I LOVE hemp seeds! I normally sprinkle them on everything, but I love this idea! I’m definitely giving this a try.

Hi Makinggoodchoicesblog,
In addition to your post I was wondering, I recently got down to 9st4lb from 13st, it took a year and i did it by walking and running around after my baby. I’ve gone upto 9st 10lbs recently but i want to be just under 9st by the beginning of June. I have hit the bar, my exercise isn’t shifting anything at all.
If i cut most carbohydrates out and eat a high protein diet will this help shift stubborn weight? I’ve heard its dangerous so is there a way to make it safer yet still effective?
Thx.
