Post Vacation: How to Get Back on Track!

by Nicole on April 27, 2011

It’s no secret my vacation was filled with 8 days of indulgence. I fully planned to enjoy every bite of food while in Italy and came home ready to go back to my “normal” way of eating. I said yesterday how I totally feel like I have less energy when I eat gobs of white flour and sugar, so I’m really looking forward to getting a couple days of normalcy under my belt.

Don’t get me wrong, I still ate salads and veggies while in Italy…it’s just the abundance of bread and cheese at every meal that gave me that lethargic feeling. So what to do now? Stress out and be upset at the extra LBs I feel? Nope, just get back on track.

So what does that even mean?

For every person it’s going to be different, but one thing it doesn’t mean is to eat as little as possible and workout for hours.

This is MY back on track, it may be slightly, or even very different for you.

I usually don’t have rules for eating, but this week to go back to normal I’m being a little more rigid.

What I do plan on doing is:

  • eating lots of veggies, fruits and whole foods.
  • cutting out all white sugar and flour (like I usually do on most days)
  • little/no processed foods
  • less bread/flour/gluten products this week, until bloatedness goes away
  • getting in my usual workouts, strength training, Core Fusion DVD, yoga, etc

Today I started my day with a green acai smoothie. I added a scoop of Amazing Grass, chia seeds, maca, goji berries and cacao nibs.(I ate it with a spoon.)

I couldn’t wait to make a bean salad to have over a lettuce for lunch. It felt good to eat beans after not eating them for over a week. Try this out for lunch or dinner, it will keep you nice and full!

Supplies!

Bean Salad over lettuce with 1/2 avocado

Oh and, I certainly am not depriving myself of dessert, I had 2 squares of dark chocolate with walnuts from Sorrento! I finished off the bar and wish I bought about 5 more. :(

There is how I plan on getting back on track. Nothing crazy, just eating lots of good for me foods and making small changes to help me feel filled with energy again. Ya have to crowd out the not so good for you foods with eating whole, heatlhy foods…and a little chocolate. :)

How do you get back on track?

You have some great tips for getting back on track. I always try to make sure I drink plenty of water when I’m trying to get back on track. Sometimes my water consumption gets tossed out the window on vacation. After a day of re-hydrating I always feel so much better!
