Fit Friday Tip: Jillian Michaels Podcasts!

by Nicole on April 20, 2012

Happy Friday! How do these weeks come and go so fast?  I actually slept through the night last night, which feels like a huge accomplishment. I got up around 5:30 and laid in bed for an hour. It’s glorious to actually feel rested this morning!

With all my awake hours in the past couple of weeks, I’ve been listening to a lot of Jillian Michaels podcasts. I started listening to them in the last two or three weeks. Gina has blogged that she listens to them, so I decided to check them out.

I used to be a HUGE Jillian Michaels fan. I loved her DVDs and her in Biggest Loser. Then I kind of fell off the wagon when she came out with those supplements and DVDs in areas she wasn’t certified in, like yoga & kettlebells. Lately, I’ve felt kind of in different towards her, so I decided why not listen to the podcast and see what I think.

Verdict: I have to say I love listening. She does a weekly podcast, but you can go back and download past ones. I find them to be very informative and it’s nice to listen to her talk in a relatable way, discussing things she struggles with.

The podcasts are set up in a way that usually Jillian has a beginning segment where she discusses or gives tips on a topic from anything from protein consumption, happiness, weight loss, to exercise. Sometimes she has a guest on like Danica Patrick or Bob Harper. At the end she’ll take 1-2 phone calls from listeners who has questions. What I like about the caller portion is that she doesn’t rush them off the phone. If it takes 5 or 15 minutes, she stays on the phone with them.

I’m sure people have varying opinions on her and this podcast, but I find it to be very motivating and inspiring. There are also great tips that she gives for weight loss, healthy eating, exercise & healthy living.

A couple of take aways that may convince you to listen:

  • Jillian is a big proponent of being happy and doing what you need to, to get there.
  • She talks about how you don’t have to spend an hour or more in the gym to be healthy.
  • No chemical policy. Jillian believes in treating yourself and indulging in foods like quality chocolate but doesn’t believe in taking in chemicals, like soda and fast food.
  • She’s real and doesn’t act like making healthy choices is 100% easy all the time.
  • A quote she repeats is, “trying is preparing to fail.”

If you are looking for some motivation and inspiration for FREE, then I’d definitely recommend checking out her podcast!

Thanks for sharing! I’m going to look this up. I think the BF and I could both use a little pick me up right now.

I am with you on the weirdness she got into with the diet pill bs (or supplements … regardless, it’s crap). I didn’t realize she wasn’t certified with kettlebells or yoga. I was wondering why the kettlebell DVD sucked so hard. I like the yoga DVD, but I thought it was strange that she was all “it’s not about form, it’s about doing it” because you can really hurt yourself if you do things wrong!

AGREED! I absolutely love Jillian’s podcasts. You’re so right about how she really gives the caller as much time and depth as necessary to tackle the problem or answer the question. And, like you, I’m in completely agreement about eating clean, chemical-free, whole foods, etc. She’s great and her podcasts are definitely full of motivation and tips. Highly recommended!

I listen to the Jillian Michaels podcast when I run and I love it. Of course there have been a couple ‘episodes’ that I don’t love, but she does a great job (I think) of bringing in experts in certain areas and I just find her so inspiring.
