New Year's Resolutions Reviewed!

Good Saturday morning to you! I woke up so early this morning because I think I got too much sleep Thursday night. I opened my eyes at 6:45 am and knew I was up for the day. After getting out of bed I decided I would do a nice easy yoga class from

Technically this is going to be my rest day, so I wanted something basically just to stretch on my new yoga mat! I did the Detox Yoga #2, 60 minute class.  Again I really like because of the pose guides and the variety of the classes. I love how you can look through the pose guides before you take the class and see if it is what you are looking for.  It was like $5.00 to join for the month and I've already used it 3 or 4 times in a week, so it's SO worth it!

After the yoga class I made some strawberry chip scones. Are you sick of seeing me bake scones? I hope not because I really love them so I keep making new versions. I went to Trader Joe's yesterday and tried to get some pumpkin for them, but they didn't have any, so I improvised and am adding strawberries today. They are in the oven as we speak!

When I finished yoga this morning I was thinking about how I can't believe I just started doing yoga in January. I am so glad I finally tried it because now I really look forward to doing it. I got to thinking and I decided to re-look at my New Year's Resolutions to see how I am doing with them. I think of them often, but I figured I'd really take a look.

Let's See:

Resolution #1: Less carbs, more protein: I think this is an ongoing endeavor for me. I gave up white flour for Lent and did great with that. I still am kind of going with not eating it, unless I see a REALLY great tasting piece of bread, that I REALLY want. Then I'll have it. I don't want to deprive myself or make me feel guilty for wanting to eat bread, but at the same time I don't want to eat it all of the time.

After eating less bread for a week in Costa Rica I really feel like I do feel better when I don't eat gluten products, so I am trying to consciously cut back. I'm making my muffins mostly with oat flour and trying out other flours to see how they taste. This resolution is definitely a work in progress!

Resolution #2: Eat little to no processed foods. I'm doing really well with this and have basically cut out everything processed. Resolution: Check!

Resolution # 3: Try new things. I buy new food items all of the time, so I feel like I'm pretty good with this one. I need to get back into trying new recipes and flipping through my cookbooks. Overall, this one is also going well.

Resolution #4: Switch things up in my workouts. I have been doing yoga for 3.5 months, so that's good. As far as trying other things I really haven't. I plan on working on this more over the summer when I have more time. I want to try that Insanity workout that the Fitnessista is doing, but I don't want to make that investment right now!

Overall I think I am doing well. You can't make changes over night and I really feel if each day I am making a conscious effort to think about what I am eating and constantly reading and learning then I am heading in the right direction. I also really try to not get caught up in feeling guilt, especially with food. Every day is a new day and a new opportunity to be better!

I know I always say this but reading food blogs has really made an impact on my life in such a positive way.  I love reading what everyone has to say about food, eating, exercise, health and just LIFE itself!

How has reading food/healthy living blogs impacted your life?

Also - I added Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution Badge to my site. Have you signed his petition yet??

I didn't make any New Year's Resolutions but very recently I started to cut down on carbs and it has been amazing. My appetite has shrunk and I definitely am eating more protein and less carbs. But like you, other blogs and recipes have totally inspired me to try new and healthy dishes.

I love your resolutions and the part about switching up your workouts. I'm a big believer of keeping the body guessing.

No - don't stop making scones!!! Actually - you reminded me that when the muffins I made today are gone, I should make scones next. I'll have to peep your recipes!
And you have awesome resolutions, and looks like you're keeping them, too. Good for you!
And oh my gosh - how hasn't reading blogs impated my life?! I am SO much more knowledgable about food, and have such a strong desire to keep learning and cooking, too. They are so inspiring!

I've been meaning to do regular New Year's Resolutions check-ins, but have failed miserably thus far :/ So thanks for the reminder! Maybe I should've made "check in on resolutions" one of the resolutions, haha!

And I'm totally with you on the carbs/gluten. That's a tough one to break, though! When I get in a steady habit of cutting back, then it's not too bad. But once I have bread or muffins or pancakes...there's no going back! :P
